On Testing Bipartiteness in the Bounded-Degree Graph Model
نویسنده
چکیده
This memo presents a variant of the known tester of Bipartiteness in the bounded-degree graph model, which is presented in Section 9.4.1 of my book on Property Testing (hereafter referred to as the book). The purpose of this variation is to show that, when the graph is rapid mixing, Bipartiteness can be tested in O( √ k) time, rather than in Õ( √ k) time. Much of the following text is reproduced from Section 9.4.1 of the book, and the essence of the improvement is in capitalizing on half of the vertices that appear on each (2l-step long) random walk rather than using only the last vertex in each of the m walks. This is reflected in the proof of Claim 3.2, where we consider l2 · (m2 − m) collision events (rather than the ·(m2 −m) events considered in the book).

Tight Bounds for Testing Bipartiteness in General Graphs
In this paper we consider the problem of testing bipartiteness of general graphs. The problem has previously been studied in two models, one most suitable for dense graphs, and one most suitable for bounded-degree graphs. Roughly speaking, dense graphs can be tested for bipartiteness with constant complexity, while the complexity of testing bounded-degree graphs is ~ (pn), where n is the number...

Teaching note: Although it is possible to study the current chapter without first studying the Chapter 9, we strongly recommend not doing so. Basic familiarity with the bounded-degree graph model seems necessary for a good perspective on the general graph model. In addition, familarity with some of the results and ideas of Chapter 9 will greatly facilitate the study of current chapter. Specific...

Overview • Testing bipartiteness in sparse graphs • In dense graphs: Upperbound of poly(1) [1] – Sample vertices at random and test if their induced subgraph is bi-partite [No proof] • In sparse graphs we will see: – Upperbound of O(√ n · poly((lg n)//) [2] * We will analyze only the simple case of rapidly mixing graphs * Algorithm works much the say way for general graphs
متن کاملOn the Benfits of Adaptivity in Property Testing of Dense Graphs
We consider the question of whether adaptivity can improve the complexity of property testing algorithms in the dense graphs model. Goldreich and Trevisan (Random Structures and Algorithms, 2003) have shown that there can be at most a quadratic gap between adaptive and non-adaptive testers in this model, but it was not known whether any gap indeed exists. In this work we reveal such a gap. Spec...
